This post is specifically dedicated to all women, as we commemorate the International women’s day.
As the whole world will be celebrating International
women’s day on Sunday 8 March , I say to all women lets wear what we want and take pride
in what we wear. It shouldn’t be about what society or patriarchal society deems
necessary and appropriate for us. It’s about us and what we like. “Make it happen” is the
theme for this year’s International women’s day.
Wearing of miniskirts can never be used
to justify rape or any other form of gender based violence. I have heard of
people who concur and justify that women apply for their own abuse. They blame
women for wearing mini-skirt, but what of those who rape six months old babies;
do they wear miniskirts too? I doubt
Its
not news that women have for some time been calling for society to respect
their right to wear what they want, but society seem to be too stubborn to
understand that everyone has the right to wear what they want.
Those
who wear miniskirts are labelled as loose, prostitutes, among all other sorts
of names that bemoan women. Honestly as a woman I feel no one has the right to teach us what to
wear or not, we are rational beings and we have the power to decide what
we want to wear.
Anyway that is not the issue I am stressing. My emphasis
is on encouraging women to take pride in what they wear, have power to decide what
they want to wear, it’s not limited to miniskirts or legging that I spoke of
the other day, but anything that a woman wants to wear, despite what society or
people expect of them.
